The EGR valve is an engine element to recycle part of the exhaust gas in the intake. They're burned a second time.

This technique crushes the intake manifold and causes motor problems.

Attention, on recent engines, it is possible that a light will turn on the dashboard, see the vehicle in degraded mode (following the vehicle mark or year of traffic). It is therefore sometimes possible that an electronic intervention is necessary to associate an electronic deletion with this mechanical deletion.
