• The EA888 engine is a 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine that is part of the Volkswagen EA888 engine family. It was launched in 2008 as a replacement for the 2.0 liter EA113 engines.
• The EA888 engine has undergone three generations of modifications during its production. The first generation (EA888 Gen 1) has a cast iron cylinder block with a cylinder spacing of 88 mm and a height of 220 mm. The engine has a forged steel crankshaft with a stroke of 92.8 mm and a compression ratio of 9.6:1. The engine has an aluminum cylinder head with two overhead camshafts and 16 valves. The engine has a variable intake valve timing system, direct fuel injection, a KKK K03 turbocharger and a maximum boost pressure of 0.6 bar.
• The second generation (EA888 Gen 2) brought several improvements to the EA888 Gen 1 engine, including reducing friction and increasing efficiency. The engine has a main bearing diameter reduced by 6 mm, a lighter crankshaft, a new IHI turbocharger which provides a maximum boost pressure of 1.0 bar, variable intake and exhaust valve timing, a lift two-stage exhaust valves, a fully electronic coolant control system, direct and multi-point fuel injection and a Start/Stop function.
• The power of the EA888 engine varies from 170 to 272 hp (125 to 200 kW) and the torque from 199 to 258 lb-ft (270 to 350 Nm), depending on the versions and vehicle models1.
